Shit gets a little dark this month, we're talking about the death of a child, the aids epidemic, revolution and civil war, and the suicide of a closeted dad. We’re getting personal, as we hold on for a month of autobiographical comics.
This week we are reading Persepolis from Marjane Satrapi. This is her tale growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Spanning her life in Tehran from ages six to fourteen, she sees the overthrow of the Shah’s regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq.
Next Week we are reading Fun Home, Alison Bechdel's story that deals not only with her own coming out as a lesbian, but her closeted father's life of secrets and his eventual suicide. The is also the basis for the Tony Award winning Musical of the same name.
