Funnybooks and Firewater

Were making love not war, and stoping time in the process.  This week we are reading Sex Criminals from Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky.  This is the first of the still running series from Image Comics.

Next Week we dive into the Valiant Comic’s line, with there first title of their 2012 relaunch, XO Manowar.

Its time for some non-cannon fun with Dark Empire.  A star wars comic from Dark Horse.  Luke dabbles in the dark side, Leia becomes a Jedi, wackyness ensues.

Next week we are taking on the modern book, Sex Criminals from Image comics.  Have fun looking that up on your computer at work.

The tables are turned on the Teen Titans in this weeks book “The Judas Contract” - Winner of the Comics Buyer’s Guide Fan Award for “Favorite Comic Book Story” of 1984.

Next Week its Star Wars! Well, not so much anymore.  Although its no longer “cannon” were reading “Dark Empire” from Dark Horse Comics.  Luke goes to the dark side, Leia becomes a Jedi. Chewbacca dose Chewbacca things.  Its Star Wars!…sort of.

Its second tier hero madness with 1987s The X-Men vs. The Avengers.  With so much fighting, drama, and inaccurate international law, you’ll think its professional wrestling.  

Todd was attempting to join us from the Nevada Desert.  Sadly it seems he was taken prisoner by robot overlords.  Hopefully a worm hole will open up next week to let him join us again.

We are not sure what book we will be reading next week.  We will announce on our social media as soon as we know. 

Were taking out our first Manga this week with Death Note, written by Tsugumi Ohba and art by Takeshi Obata,.  An epic cat and mouse game between a brilliant teen who can easily kill just by writing down a name, and the detective determined to catch the killer.  Next week we are reading the X-Men Vs. The Avengers from 1987, written by Rodger Stern. 

Were back with another Batman book! Nearly every member of the rogue’s gallery gets involved in this week’s book: Hush, written by Jeph Loeb, with amazing art by Jim Lee.  Next we we are taking on our first Manga, the first book of Death Note.  

This week we enter the Demilitarized Zone, AKA the DMZ, AKA Manhattan.  The story takes us thru a war torn New York in the center of a second American Civil War. Vertigo presents DMZ, a tale from expertly written by Brian Wood with beautiful Art by Riccardo Burchielli. Next we are reading and discussing the classic Batman book, Hush.

In this weeks episode we discuss the first trade paperback of Jessica Jones.  If you were old school, and read it when it first came out like Q, you know it as Alias, if you only heard about it because of the Netflix show, it was released as Jessica Jones:Alias.  Either way, we read and discuss the book, share some cocktails, and discuss the soap opera that comics stories can be.  Join us next week for DMZ vol 1. Matt Fraction brings us a new take on Clint Barton - aka the self-made hero Hawkeye. With ex-Young Avenger Kate Bishop by his side, this thriller spans the globe. This week we are discussing 2002 Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia. From Greg Rucka and J.G.
